The shape, lines and influences for this Nerikomi vase originate from my childhood memories and upbringing in Southern Africa, specifically Namibia.
The shape for this piece is inspired by the curvy and flowing lines of the African calabash.
A Calabash is a vessel made from the hollowed-out, dried, hard shell of a fruit in the gourd family.
This little rounded vase reflects the descending shape of the calabash beautifully, while the primitive, geographical, landscape-like lines of the Nerikomi pattern compliments the rounded shape.
Composition: Cream stoneware. Unglazed on the outside and glazed with a gloss black on the inside. The unglazed areas have been treated with a liquid Quartz to ensure it is stain-proof.
